They are essentially a selection of stocks that we would be happy to own for growth throughout the next decade and beyond.

Essentially you are looking for a long term upward trend and a reasonably strong underlying reason to buy and hold for each stock.
We will inevitably see some volatility, as 2020 demonstrates, but if we are comfortable with owning these stocks through that volatility, we can take advantage of these long term uptrends.
